Southville – Total Refurbishment
From a mouldy, wonky council tenancy home with a leaking roof, into a luxury 2 bed town house with extended living space and vertical extension.
‘A crisp, contemporary feel’ was the client’s brief and that is exactly what we hope to have achieved. The vertical extension has made ample space for a minimalist office with a beautiful pentagonal window structure which makes full use of the wall allowing light to engulf the room.
Homes in this area were built on foundations made from compacted silt which was dug out of the cut flowing adjacent to he house. This made the living space extension tricky. We overcame this by creating a raft foundation and installing all steel work from there. A timely process but ultimately the safest way to go.
Access to the extended area at the rear of the house will forever be difficult for cleaning or treating. After close consultation with the client and our suppliers we decided to install a uPVC timber effect cladding as seen on many a New England home in North America. The client was delighted with the effect and the minimal to no maintenance aspect in the future.
Not a single wall in the house was level, some had mysterious damp patches (notorious in this area) and most weren’t level and had a damp patch! We remedied this by water proofing all the downstairs walls then battened off (wrapped in a damp proof membrane) finally plaster boarding and skimming. Now the client has clean, crisp walls that are damp proof and definitely level!
